Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Chicago
About Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Chicago
Objectives of the Center are to unite overseas Chinese, promote their welfare, enhance the Sino-American friendship, promulgate Chinese heritages, and conduct community services and charity events for the public interests.
We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our Association was first established in the 1880s downtown at Van Buren and Clark. It was relocated to Cermak and Wentworth in 1916 when the downtown area was being developed. The present site of the Association was built in 1958 with donations from the Midwest America Chinese. Our services include but not limited to: helping new Chinese immigrants in starting a new life in the Chicago area and in educating them about citizenship; assisting the local Chinese families that have problems with English; teaching their children Chinese language. In recent years, we also work with the City’s Department on Aging to offer Nutritious Senior Lunch Program to the seniors; the RTA to offer free ride certificates to the seniors of 65 years old or older; and the Office of the Secretary of State to provide convenient ID Cards and Driver’s License services to the seniors in the community. We add an oriental dimension to the American life, bring the local community into the American mainstream, and help the mainstream to understand the Chinese better through the promulgation and sharing of our heritages.
