OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates East Bay Chapter is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans throughout the Oakland and East Bay region. Since 1987, the organization has been instrumental in serving Alameda and Contra Costa counties through comprehensive advocacy, professional development, and community initiatives. Based in Oakland, CA, the East Bay Chapter operates as part of a national network of over 100 OCA chapters, providing coordinated support for civil rights work and policy advocacy. The organization's current advocacy portfolio encompasses five critical areas: immigration reform, education equity, racial equity and inclusion, civic engagement, and census representation. OCA-East Bay delivers tangible community programs including the Frank Kiang Scholarship for High School Students, offering $4,000 annually to support Oakland youth pursuing higher education. The Mentoring Asian American Professionals (MAAP) program cultivates the next generation of AAPI leaders through targeted skills building, mentoring relationships, and professional networking opportunities. Additionally, the organization coordinates PickItUp Chinatown, a monthly community beautification initiative held on the second Sundays, demonstrating commitment to environmental stewardship and neighborhood improvement in Oakland's historic Chinatown.
