About Southern Oregon Chinese Cultural Association
The Southern Oregon Chinese Cultural Association (SOCCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to organizing and presenting dynamic cultural celebrations and educational programming in Medford, Oregon and the surrounding region. Since its founding in 2005, SOCCA has established itself as a premier provider of Pan-Asian cultural events, most notably the annual Lunar New Year Celebration held in downtown Jacksonville. This signature event features traditional lion and dragon dances, zodiac-themed performances, cultural presentations, and interactive demonstrations spanning Chinese art, music, history, martial arts, cooking, and traditional medicine. SOCCA's programming showcases expertise in cultural education through hands-on activities designed for all ages, including performances by specialists in kung fu, Chinese opera, acrobatics, puppetry, and tai chi. The organization has expanded its cultural reach to honor shared Asian traditions, welcoming Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Filipino cultural partners into the celebration. SOCCA's events are powered by generous support from regional businesses, arts organizations, educational institutions, volunteers, and media sponsors. The organization received its nonprofit Public Benefits status on May 21, 2012, and tax-exempt status on March 14, 2014 (Tax ID: 45-5313488). Through carefully curated programming and community partnerships, SOCCA brings people together to celebrate the richness of Asian cultures while honoring the historical significance of Chinese immigrants in Southern Oregon's economic and cultural development.
